October 10, 2008 Talking Points

1.         McCain:  The Obama/Ayers Lies Matter

He told Charles Gibson “I do care, and Americans should care, about his relationship with him and whether he’s being truthful and candid about it” (NRO).  McCain/Palin is going after this relationship with an ad (YouTube).  From another story:  Barack Obama should put an end to the lingering questions that Americans have about his associations with Bill Ayers,” said Republican strategist Margaret Hoover.  “That he won’t only increases our suspicion that he is trying to hide the fact that he has had ongoing associations — whether through positively reviewing Bill Ayers’ book, by continuing to serve on boards with him, though interactions at the University of Chicago — with an unrepentant terrorist,” Hoover said (FOX News).  Meanwhile, Obama’s new angle is saying he thought Ayers was rehabilitated (ABC News).  Clear evidence he was never even close to “rehabilitated” (Patriot Room).  Does Obama think Ahmadinejad is rehabilitated, too?  Anther story notes Obama’s close relationship with Ayers and the clear evidence that he was not rehabilitated (Seattle PI).  From Glenn Beck:  The defense on Ayers from the Obama camp is that they’re not friends — Ayers was “a guy who lives in my neighborhood,” as Obama said. This strikes me as a strange argument from the same campaign that ran Spanish-language ads attempting to disparage McCain by highlighting his “Republican friends” like Rush Limbaugh.  Later:  If Rush qualifies as McCain’s friend, then William Ayers might as well be Barack Obama’s fiancé (CNN).  And Harry Reid is the latest to cry racism when Obama is connected to corrupt individuals (Breitbart). John Murtagh, nearly killed by Ayers as a child, was on FOX and Fiends yesterday morning.

2.         Krauthammer:  Obama Connections Matter

The story begins “Convicted felon Tony Rezko. Unrepentant terrorist Bill Ayers. And the race-baiting Rev. Jeremiah Wright. It is hard to think of any presidential candidate before Barack Obama sporting associations with three more execrable characters. Yet let the McCain campaign raise the issue, and the mainstream media begin fulminating about dirty campaigning tinged with racism and McCarthyite guilt by association.”  Later:  He doesn’t share Rev. Wright’s poisonous views of race nor Ayers’ views, past and present, about the evil that is American society. But Obama clearly did not consider these views beyond the pale. For many years he swam easily and without protest in that fetid pond.

3.         Obama Controversy Grows:  ACORN Corruption Also Points to Obama

The story notes “For starters, Obama paid ACORN, which has endorsed him for president, $800,000 to register new voters, payments his campaign failed to accurately report. (They were disguised in his FEC disclosure as payments to a front group called Citizen Services Inc. for “advance work.”)” (IBD).   From Nevada on ACORN:  State authorities on Tuesday raided an organization that registers low-income people to vote, alleging that its canvassers falsified forms with bogus names, fake addresses or famous personalities (Las Vegas Review-Journal).  ACORN voter fraud in Ohio (NY Post & FOX News).  How ACORN and Obama helped bring about this financial mess (Media Circus).  More on ACORN (Hotair).  The Obama compound is trying to distance itself from ACORN (Washington Times).
